13th Anniversary
Serving
New England
NAPO-New England, formerly New
England Professional Organizers was formed in 1994 when founder
Kathy Waddill invited all the Boston area organizers she could
locate (approximately ten) to meet at her home. The gathering gave
organizers a chance to swap stories and discuss the relatively new
industry in a supportive forum. The group continued to meet and
continued to grow.
By 1997, we did what came naturally. We chose
officers and created more structured meetings allowing time for
networking, chapter business and education. Our geographic reach had grown as
well. Organizers from New England area states had joined us. In 2001
New England Professional Organizers became an official chapter of
the National Association of Professional Organizers. We became NAPO-New
England. Currently, NAPO-New England is the second largest chapter
in the United States!
Giving
Back
Social responsibility has always been a
priority for the chapter. Over the years the members have
volunteered time and organizing skills to many organizations
including an ADD Resource Center, The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center
and the WGBH annual fund drive.
Today, members regularly volunteer their services through “Quantum
Leap,” a program with Saint Mary’s Women and Infants Center in
Dorchester, MA. The Women at Work Program is a job readiness
training program that addresses the vocational needs of women facing
severe barriers to employment, including
homelessness, lack of education, and/or a history of substance abuse
or domestic violence. Organizers provide training around critical
workplace skills such as time and paper management, to these women
entering the workforce.
